Where does the tap-water in Hua Hin come from?

Hua Hin houses receive most of its water from the Pranburi Dam, through pipeline connections from both Municipal (“Tessabaan”) water supply and Provincial Waterworks (PWA) supply. While water sourced from Pranburi Dam is monitored to ensure that it follows the WHO guidelines for safe water, does that mean we can drink directly from our water taps at home?

Complaints about water quality

Over the years, there has been numerous reports that water directly from the pipeline contains sediments and unpleasant odors. This becomes especially rampant during the rainy season in Thailand where flooding is common in some areas.

What causes the issues?

Hua Hin has been growing rapidly in the past decades due to increased population and tourisms and water demand in the area has reached new heights. This puts a strain on the water system which was not planned for this rapid increase in demand. With this in mind, it is worth noting that Hua Hin municipality is currently working on a project that includes a new water pipeline from the Kaeng Krachan Dam in Petchaburi Province.

Is the water safe for daily use?

Yes, water from the dam is filtered and treated in several stages before it reaches your home. However, drinking directly from the tap is not a recommended practice among the locals. Why is that?

The problem is not where the water is sourced, but how it is delivered to your house in Hua Hin.

Broken supply pipes

The underground pipes are experiencing leaks and cracks that could cause dirt, mud, sand, and sediment to be sucked into the pipes. Contaminations can also enter the water pipes during repair work.

Fluctuating Water Demand

Hua Hin is growing rapidly as a city and water treatment stations may at times not be able to keep up with the increased demand

Low Water Reserve

At times the water level in the Pranburi Dam is low, which could lead to the water being drawn from the dam being rich in sediments and suspended solids. This would affect water quality.

Why choose a Water Filter from Kat-Tech Engineering?

It has been used for decades in various settings, including residential, commercial, and industrial applications, to provide safe drinking water and ensure water quality.

No chemicals used

Unlike other water treatment methods that involve the use of chemicals like chlorine, UV filtration is a chemical-free process. This means there is no risk of harmful by-products or changes to the taste or odor of the water.

99.99% effective against E.coli and Cryptosporidium

The use of UV light for water treatment is based on its ability to inactivate harmful microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoa, by disrupting their DNA or RNA.

Flowrate up to 95l/min

UV Systems are designed with correctly sized inlet/outlet for the specific application.

Filters out dirt and sediment

The sediment water filter is a type of physical filtration system that remove dirt, sand, silt, and other particulate matter from water. As the water flows through the filter media, particles larger than the filter's pore size are trapped and prevented from passing through

Removes unpleasant taste and smell

The carbon water filter is a type of water treatment system that uses activated carbon as the primary filtering medium. As the water flows through the activated carbon filter, contaminants such as chlorine, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), pesticides, and some heavy metals are attracted to the carbon's surface and held there.
